FC Barcelona Draws With Valencia In Copa Del Rey Semifinal First Leg

Monday, February 6th, 2012

After eliminating Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey last week, FC Barcelona’s next enormous challenge was Valencia in the semi final. Valencia are one of the most outstanding clubs in Spanish football and always a force to be reckoned with. Nonetheless Barcelona at the moment is looking a little beat and ragged, and yesterday evening Pep Guardiola had to make do without some main players due to injury,eg Andres Iniesta.

In the first half of the match the two teams looked pretty even, but Valencia seemed to create some better possibilities than Barcelona. Cesc Fabregas set up a shot for Alexis, but sadly he wasn't able to do anything with it. Immediately afterwards Jonas scored the first objective of the match to put the hosts in the lead.

However , Barcelona responded to this straight away and 10 minutes later Alexis shot at the goal, which was deflected to give Barcelona a corner. Once again, Puyol used his head and put the ball outside the keeper and into the back of the net to equalise for the Catalans.

When play continued after the break Alexis appeared to have scored only to have the goal disallowed for offside. Then ten minutes into the second half, Barcelona got given a penalty, looking like a great opportunity for Barcelona to take the lead. Nevertheless the penalty didn't go as planned and a slightly hesitant kick from Messi was easily intercepted by the Valencia goalkeeper and pushed apart.

Though Barcelona was now dominating possession they couldn't to do anything with the ball notwithstanding making 1 or 2 new probabilities; they just were not able to score and the match ended 1-1 going into the return leg at the Nou Camp next week. At least Barcelona have the edge. Let's hope that they have recovered some of the energy, and can put on a provoking display.

How Can Real Madrid Beat Barcelona Next Time?

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Saturday night was the 1st “clasico” of the Spanish league this season, the clashes between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid that have come to symbolize the centralist view of Spain versus the nation of states espoused by many Catalans and that in the year have often become overheated on the pitch and spilled over into some pretty upsetting scenes.

With FC Barcelona trailing Real Madrid by three points in spite of having played an extra match thanks to having to play a match early thanks to the Club World Cup in Japan in December and Real Madrid having an incredible string of wins in a row it was looking as if Bara’s recent stranglehold won't be so tight.

And having been widely criticized for his before and after match antics, Madrid coach Jose Mourinho stayed silent on the topic of the forthcoming clash, having perhaps realized that his taunts and inflaming behavior only appeared to make Barcelona’s backbone all of the stronger.

Nevertheless in the 1st 25 seconds of the match something surprising happened and Real Madrid capitalised on a rare mistake by Victor Valdes allowing their enemy to score. This looked to be the kind of nightmare start a few of the people were fearing, not believing that it might be feasible to beat Real Madrid once again in their home stadium.

This early shot across the bows from Madrid appeared to focus the minds of the Barcelona players are they soon got back onto winning form. The game slanted in Barcelona’s favour and they were clearly outmanoeuvring Madrid despite some strong and dangerous looking counterattacks.

Barcelona equalised after 30 minutes and looked as if they were more than back in the game. And in the second half they were soon in the lead straight to make winning seem like an increasingly likely option. When Barcelona’s 3rd goal was scored it was clear that Madrid could not match the brilliance of Barcelona and despite being in robust form this season, still not in the same class.

Hence what now for Real Madrid? How will they regroup as this defeat by Barcelona will have severely dented their confidence. He's already tried several different strategies to beat Barcelona but in the last eight encounters has won just once. So how will Jose Mourinho make preparations for the next clasico in April?

Part of the success of FC Barcelona is the youth training scheme. If you want to see them play order FC Barcelona tickets in advance and avoid disappointment.

Long Term Investment In Players Helps Barcelona

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

FC Barcelona is a soccer club located in Catalonia, an autonomous area of Spain. While many of us want independence from Spain, the majority are content to remain part of Spain though they wish other communities within the country respected them culture and language more, most importantly from Madrid.

The tensions between FC Barcelona and Madrid are typically demonstrated when their contentions spill over onto the football field with the teams bitter rivals. Out of all the clubs in Spain they are two that are famous, most successful and best funded. The biggest difference between them though is the composition of the squads.

While Real Madrid concentrates on spending its substantial financial firepower on signing some of the planet's best players, FC Barcelona has made significant investments in its youth academy and will produce plenty of its star players in house. Outstanding Barcelona youngsters include Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Victor Valdes, Xavi Hernadez, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fbregas; the bulk of the prevailing squad in reality as well as FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.

One of the largest spin offs of this approach is that the players learn to read their colleagues really early on. When they come to play for the main team they slot in straight away and can run rings around the opposition thanks to their ability to almost mind-read their colleagues.

Nonetheless that isn’t to say Madrid’s approach does not work. As I write this they're top of the Spanish League with Barcelona 1 or 2 points behind after losing their first match of the season. However , it remains to be seen whether the gigantic amounts required to get new players are sustainable in the long term and other clubs in Europe, most particularly Manchester City, have looked closely at the Catalan model to bring up children within the team and play the long term game.

Simply Barcelona Tickets provides match reports and other news as well as supplying FC Barcelona tickets for la liga and other competitions. When you visit Barcelona make sure you avoid disappointment buy ordering Barcelona tickets in advance.

Can Jose Mourinho last at Real Madrid?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

FC Barcelona made a spectacular season last year with la Liga, Champions League, Spanish Supercup and European Supercup to their name. The sole titles they left on the table was the Copa del Rey, won by Real Madrid but that was little consolation for high expectations under Jose Mourinho, the controversial Portuguese coach.

The contrast between Mourinho and Barcelona’s own coach, Pep Guardiola, could barely be bigger. While Guardiola is often subdued and not much used to excuse himself or his team, Mourinho is quite the opposite, known for aggressively playing mind games ahead of important matches and blaming everybody from opposition players to linesmen and referees.

While the contention between the two clubs is mythical, there is something vicious about the way the games have played out since Jose Mourinho; Real Madrid plays hard and their players appear to have been psyched up before matches and assertive as a consequence.

This is the genuine basis of the confrontations between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona; Jose Mourinho is hardly in control of himself and his players are constantly on the edge of losing control. In current matches at least 2 clasicos have ended in fights, including the Spanish Supercup when Mourinho himself could be seen to press his finger into the eye of Guardiola’s helper, Tito Vilanova.

Quite how long Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, will put up with Mourinho’s histrionics isn't known; the club has a history of dispatching even successful coaches. If Mourinho can target his task in hand, which is to win the Spanish League title, if not Champions League, then his antics and oddities could be put up with.

However , if he continues to focus his energies on FC Barcelona while losing points toward other teams and continuing to sully Madrid’s reputation on the world stage then Perez could look to replace him mid-season; it wouldn't be the 1st time. But Mourinho is doing his very own reputation no good, and he could find it tricky to find a job in his preferred league in England.
