In kids soccer drills, this is for sure that anyone who has played the sport will understand the importance of dribbling in the game. It’s the technique of moving in the ground while retaining the possession of the ball. This is the first skill that the kids are taught when the coaching begins.
But the question is how important are the dribbling skills? It’s best to have the kids participate regularly in drills to help them develop dribbling skills. The kids would therefore learn the art of maneuvering the ball well. Dribbling has the effect of developing your ability to pass by most of the opponents while keeping the possession of the ball.
To become a good dribbler, you need to spend time with the ball and take to heart these key fundamentals. Kids soccer drills coach the kids to use the surface of their foot. It is the front side of their instep that kids use very frequently when they dribble the ball at a great speed.
But make sure that the kids have mastered the art of using both inside and outside of their feet in becoming great dribblers. This will allow them to keep the ball in their control no matter where the opponent’s force approaches from. Teach the kids the trick of using both the sides of their feet like that of a hockey stick.
It’s pertinent in soccer drills for kids to guarantee that kids come into contact with the ball at each step. The ball is tapped keeping it in front while dribbling it. This has the effect of increasing the speed of dribbling while allowing kids to retain the ball.
The kids will therefore be able to escape the defending team as soon as they approach the ball to catch it. So begin slowly but surely by paying attention and seeing that the young players are getting familiar with the nature of the ball.
In youth soccer drills continue to adjust the speed of ball while teaching kids. It’s not necessary for the kids to be exceptionally fast to beat the opponent on the dribble. In fact, make the defender get drowsy for a moment and then make your way through the opponents at high speed.
Train the kids on remaining alert with respect to the ball while in the field. When dribbling, it’s critical for the kids to be focused on the ball and also know what’s happening in the ground.
Help them improve upon their weak foot. Soccer drills for youth should include continuous striking of the ball against a wall using the bad foot which will help them improve slowly.
When kids find some free time, instruct them to play with the ball.
Teach them to take a seat and rotate the ball from side to side using the weaker foot. The more it is done, the more control can be maintained with the ball.
Now you know! Kids soccer drills should teach the kids to use their body to defend the ball. The ball must be protected with the body when a defender comes close. To get an access to many more tips on soccer coaching tricks and dribbling, join our youth soccer coaching community.
